NO ROOM TO DREAM

You may think you know what a child’s bedroom looks like... but do you?

In California, 1 in 25 children is experiencing homelessness tonight, and for many, their “room” is the backseat of a car.

To make the invisible impossible to ignore, we built three fully realized children’s rooms inside actual vehicles — mobile installations each inspired by the real stories of people who experienced homelessness as children.

With a shoestring budget, we shot a campaign film in our agency parking lot, and unveiled the installations on World Homelessness Day at Oakland City Hall, supported by the city’s mayor and former U.S. congresswoman Barbara Lee. From there, the cars toured the Bay Area, inviting people to peer inside, and hear real voices from the interviews that shaped each room.
